Thank you for being a friend!

I've recently been battling some insomnia, the kind that doesn't want to be settled with books and warm tea, so I discovered something else: The Golden Girls reruns. Each night, while I get ready for bed, an episode or two helps me wind down from my day full of work, parenting, school and community commitments.

But one episode in particular made me chuckle out loud: "The Pope's Ring." In it, Blanche talks about how she can't return Rose's birthday gift because she paid in advance:

These ladies are timeless classics -- once you get past the hair and tacky Miami house furnishings, that is. And I'm not the only one who thinks so: Medium and Slate and a slew of other online resources tout the Golden Girls as sitcom genius. Young women in college are now finding out about the amazingness of Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia, and there are plenty of "things you didn't know about the Golden Girls" listicles here and here and here, to name a few.

I know that I should spend my time reading or writing or doing something more productive than watching television before bed, but with writing like this, it's OK to take a break sometimes!
