After LS589
Last week I was fortunate to attend the Pennsylvania Library Association’s annual conference at the new Kalahari Resort in the Poconos. While the allure of two days away from my kids (and subsequent housework) surrounded by my coworkers in a waterpark was exciting, this was the first time I was serving on a panel and I was really looking forward to that new experience.
I spent the past year working with the National Library of Medicine on the Engage for Health program and was on a panel with several cohorts who also participated in the training. Through the experience I learned about surveying patrons for program effectiveness and success, and had the opportunity to co-facilitate a program on health literacy at the library where I work. I had lunch with some amazing co-workers, too!
During the conference I also attended presentations on marketing, advocacy and preservation. And … I think I may have decided upon my capstone project, pending permission and approval from my advisor!

Later
in the week, I gave a presentation to our board of directors about the success
of our volunteer and community partnerships. It’s something I’m really proud of
and I love seeing how the library staff all work together to build lifelong
readers and learners in our community. Libraries really do transform!
So
what’s next? Well, I continue to learn and grow as a future librarian, of
course. And I’m also using this time to catch up on much overdue reading …
