A holiday gift
I recently had the opportunity to attend the Random House
Open House in New York City – for work, of course! – and nothing gets a
book lover in the holiday spirit more than a new tote bag full of books and
hearing some amazing authors talk about their work.
The morning opened with Trevor Noah talking with his editor
about his book, Born a Crime. While I’ve seen a few episodes of The Daily Show,
I generally don’t stay up that late, so I wouldn’t consider myself a fan … until
that day! He was engaging and inspiring and I definitely plan to watch the show
more often now.
From there, it was author after author, until the main
attraction was brought out at the end: Diana Gabaldon. Woah. I have never read
any of the Outlander books, or saw the show, but I am now a fan after hearing
her speak. She was incredible and passionate, funny and sincere.
It also helped that the Random House bookstore offered some
steep discounts on new books during the event, so I also got some Christmas
presents taken care of – a win-win in my book (pun intended!).
Once I got home, I poured over Trevor Noah’s book, finishing
it in a day. And, I am slowly making my way through my ever-growing TBR pile
before the next semester of school starts.
Happy holidays and happy reading, everyone!
